so i didn't realize this until the next day as we were leaving, but the winding roads we drove in on in the pitch black, ranged from 6000 ft. in elevation to about 4500 ft. so it made perfect sense why i was gripping onto the door and clenching my teeth. but during the day, Sedona, AZ, is stunning. it is almost like a miniature grand canyon with more of an option to explore.
we started our morning at slide rock. i wasn't able to take photos, because i didn't want my camera to get broken or wet. slide rock is a naturally formed water slide. i'm not sure if it was the time of year or if it is always that way, but it was breathtakingly cold. when you put your feet in the water, it began to hurt almost immediately. but i wasn't going to go there and not experience this natural water slide. since it was ice cold, you had to wean your way into the water. once i was almost used to the water, i decided i had to do it. i sat in the water and started creeping over towards the water slide. david went first, because he is pretty much fearless, and after he got down, i moved a little more closer. i took about 10 deep breaths, sat there for about a minute, and then pushed off. everyone who knows me, knows i don't like to be rushed, and i take my time, ha ha. i was scared and absolutely freezing, and i think my lungs and my heart stopped with every dip in the slide. i thought i was going to die, but in the end, it was exhilarating.
here are some other people's youtube videos. i know you all want to see an older man in a speedo anyway.

after slide rock, we changed, and walked around the town.
it is a very pricey, yuppie, mountain town. it was neat though. we ate some southwestern/mexican cuisine, and me and david both knew it was a bad idea. we were planning on going on an all-terrain jeep tour through the canyon after lunch.
at 1pm, we started the pink jeep tour. we were on the tour with a retired couple from pennsylvania, an older couple from illinois, and their daughter, who had just moved to AZ for a teaching position. they were all very sociable and very nice. our tour guide was also a very cool guy. when we first got on the jeep and started going, i started to panic a little about possibly having to ask the guide to stop so i could vomit somewhere. i've had problems with car sickness before , but i didn't think about it until too late. my body adjusted though, and i was fine. we rode on inclines, and declines, and stopped on tops of mountains to take pictures of the views.
it was probably my favorite thing we did during our trip.
because we stayed in sedona until the late afternoon, we decided to drive to las vegas instead of the grand canyon, because the grand canyon would be dark and by the time we got there. we decided once we had enough of vegas, we would drive to the grand canyon and then to los angeles. we miscalculated the times, and it was a little out of the way, but we made it work. there's no way we could miss the grand canyon.
and the fact for the day is....the agave plant is what they use to make tequila. pictured below is an agave plant.
that is what it looks like when it blooms. it only blooms once in it's lifetime.
