memphis

GRACELAND!

we woke up from camping, packed up our campsite and headed to Memphis.

We did a tour of Elvis' house, and it was so awesome. they gave us headsets that had little stories playing, music, and information about the house. All around us, I heard irish accents, british accents, asian languages. It was amazing how many people were going through the house from all over the world, I can only imagine how many people go through Graceland in a week. We were allowed to take photos, just none with flash. So of course, I took pictures of everything. If you ever get the chance to go, it is definitely worth it!

After our tour we were starving, so we headed downtown to check out Morgan Freeman's restaurant. Memphis is a such a pretty city.We walked into the Ground Zero Music Club, and there were only about 3 other customers. We had the place all to ourselves pretty much. Our waitress was so nice! She even told us to get on the dance floor if we wanted. I got catfish, mashed potatoes (of course) and green beans. I love that southern food! David got pork bbq, sweet potato fries and fried green tomatoes. It was a great space, and at night they have blues bands playing.

After lunch, we headed to the infamous Beale Street. It was a blocked off stretch of street lined on both sides with music shops, blues bars, restaurants, and gift shops. A few musicians were playing the guitar and singing. It had a great vibe, and I will definitely be going back to experience the music and nightlife of Memphis.

We were supposed to end the day in Amarillo, TX , but Memphis was just too cool to leave. We are now sleeping somewhere in Oklahoma, west of Oklahoma City. We have about 195 miles to Amarillo, then we'll just keep on truckin'. Apparently, tomorrow is going to be a very boring stretch of travel. That's ok, b/c we need to balance out how cool the trip has been so far, and we've never seen it before so it's brand new imagery for the brain to process. More pictures will be coming soon!

P.S. Arkansas drivers are worse than Pennsylvania drivers.

day 1 - savannah to memphis

i haven't had internet until right now, so i haven't been able to post what's been going on. day 2 is over, but this post will be a recap of day 1. we left savannah about 7:45am. we drove to atlanta to visit our friend loren from school.

we ate at a restaurant called the vortex in little Five Points.

it was featured on the food network's drives and dives show. i had a yohamma mamma burger that was covered in teriyaki sauce and had a slice of pineapple on it. it was interesting. then we walked around to some shops and loren did a quick driving tour of the town.

we passed the high museum, scad-atlanta, and the court house i had to go to for when i was in an car accident in atlanta. oh memories. we had a really great time in atlanta, thanks loren! you are awesome! always good to see you!

since we stayed longer than expected in atlanta, which was fun and totally worth it, we didn't get to memphis until about 10pm so we didn't get to see beale street at night, but i have a feeling i will be back, so it's ok. we got to the KOA kampgrounds, set up the tent amongst the bazillion bugs and went to bed. it was an awesome first day of the trip. atlanta was great, wish i would have gone more often while i was in savannah. northern alabama and mississippi are beautiful, i swear, who would've thunk it. i'll put the pictures up soon.

a new meaning to car dancing

I'll bring the paper toilet seat covers

Interesting Article on Road Tripping

Our trip begins on Thursday morning, it took forever to get here. We realized yesterday, yes yesterday, that our trip was beginning on Labor Day weekend. This could add a couple bumps to the beginning of adventure, but I think we can handle it, I hope! I'm just ready to get out of Savannah, I thought I already broke free!

Our first stop will be in Atlanta. We'll be staying with our friend Loren. The next day we're off to Memphis. Should be pretty cool. Maybe we'll get a bite at Morgan Freeman's Restaurant and hear a little bit o' Delta Blues.

Hopefully everything starts off well, and we avoid the next approaching hurricane (pronounced HURakin in the South).

Miss you all!
